Well, we don't all know the US is the greatest country in the world, because in some peoples opinions it's not. :p

Yeah, commies and islamofascists! ;)

islamonazifacists!

Actually, if you poke around you will see that the "Islamists" America has come to know are the religious radicals. Similiar to the religious radicals we have in country who don't count for much of the population.

So most people who worship Islam aren't that bad at all, average Joes and Janes just like you and me.

lol MSM brainwashed you well.

Wow. Wow... so you're saying that most Muslims ARE bad people? That's one of the most fvcked up things I've ever seen you say.

can you quote where I say that most Muslims are bad people?

You bolded a statement that said "So most people who worship Islam aren't that bad at all, average Joes and Janes just like you and me."

You replied with "lol MSM brainwashed you well."

Clearly you disagreed with the statement that you bolded.

So apparantly you believe that most Muslims are bad.

I was commenting more on the "average Joes and Janes just like you and me" part. They are not average Joes like us. First off, they (Muslims in the Middle East) see anyone that is non-Muslim as dirty/second class, and they see Jews as evil and think they make passover matzahs out of children's blood. They hail as heroes those who strap bombs and blow up jews in cafes. They see terrorists as martyrs.

Public polls say most Middle East Muslims don't believe Muslims committed 9/11 terrorist acts -- most of them think Israel did it!

But most of all, they are part of the infrastructure/economy/society that supports terrorism -- and they don't renounce it.

Drawbacks
- cost of living is fairly high (but you make more so it kind of makes up for it)
- more and more issues in education, especially public education
- politics issues such as the iraq war, budget deficit, how more and more we are turning into extreme ideologism (sp?)
- american dream is harder and harder to get, both parents have to work to be able to buy a house
- hard to start a business with all of the regulations (fire code, labor issues, etc)
- retarded immigration policies
- etc

IMHO the US is dirt cheap compared to other "1st world" countries like England, Ireland, and Japan. It's just that money is so freaking easy to come by here we have this unquenchable desire to consume. Big ass homes, expensive cars, frivilous spending on $3.00 coffees. $200+ a month in cable, internet and cell phone bills ,ect. We have a consumer driven lifestyle that we have both spouces working to keep up with that type of lifestyle.

It's not necessary. In many parts of the country off the coasts a family can get by quite well on the solid income of one spouse. You can have a house and two cars, they just won't be 3000+ square feet in a lofty suburb nor will they be shiny new cars every 3 years. But you can get by without completely breaking the bank.

When I was in Ireland, I was shocked at the prices. Food, gas, homes, cars, ect...they were all much much higher than in the States. Plus the taxes were much higher. England wasn't much different. By most reports/studies, Japan is also quite expensive. The real estate is just a symptom of being locked in and surrounded by water. The US on the other hand is wide open with cheap ground in ample supplies.

The public school problem is much more complex. It's one part politics, one part parents, one part overall culture. And I really don't have the energy to get into it.

One of the drawbacks to an open society. Everybody wants to come here to prosper in general safety, but no-one wants to be American and love this country.

What is keeping all you Americans here if you thinks it sucks? Just because you came here, or were born here, doesn't mean you have to stay.

Oh yeah, I forgot - you can whine and complain here and not get imprisoned or beat to death. Silly me.

I think that Per capital Nominal GDP is more meanigful. Text
Rank Country GDP
per capita
1 Luxembourg 80,288
2 Norway 64,193
3 Iceland 52,764
4 Switzerland 50,532
5 Ireland 48,604
6 Denmark 47,984
7 Qatar 43,110
8 United States 42,000
9 Sweden 39,694
10 Netherlands 38,618

Or Per Capita Purchasing Power Parity GDP is probably the most accurate, since it takes into context the cost of living in that country:
1 Luxembourg 69,800
2 Norway 42,364
3 United States 41,399
4 Ireland 40,610
5 Iceland 35,115
6 Denmark 34,740
7 Canada 34,273
8 Hong Kong 33,479
9 Austria 33,432
10 Switzerland 32,571

Looks like I'll take Luxembourg or Norway!

To me it's social and economic freedom that makes a country great. For those who think it's restrictive to start a business in the US, try it in Canada, UK, Japan, Germany, Austria, South Africa then report back with the facts. Do you want to complain about public education? Guess what it?s on the decline everywhere in the world except in China.
I have thoughts at times about moving away from the US but I still have not found a country that still has free elections, decent economic climate and the legal right to protect your life or property with firearm ownership without having to pay some one off to get the special restrictive permits.

Yes I am actually going back home. You are the perfect example of why people from other countries hate the US so much. Your attitude of "OMG I am the greatest other people have to succumb before me, I have to get in other people's affairs, I am the alpha male" will not get you very far if you leave the country.

EDIT: oh wow you are from texas.. ok I wont argue anymore..

Words may not change your mind, but I'd certainly hope that travel would. America is certainly more compassionate than a number of other countries, but they are far from the top. Great country? Yeah. The best? Naw... Most influencial? Perhaps.
The US is Rome. There may have been corners of the world that were better to live in back in those days, but Rome was still on everyone's tongue. It's such a huge subject that different people tend to focus on vastly different things (Rome was both glorious and decadent), and one could argue that no one is capable of seeing the full picture of such an empire. We just build out own simplistic constructs out of our experiences and feelings on the matter. Some focus on economy, some on justice, some on politics, some on nature, some on society, and different people get different impressions of the relative good and bad of each of these.

If you were to take a million different people, give them some sort of mythical Genesis device, and have them each construct the US from scratch, as accurately as possible (not 'the way they want it to be", that is), I think that few of us would recognize the countries that came out. But the sum of all those concepts might be a pretty close representation.

One more thing, IMO individualism is soooo engrained in the way of thinking here. In other countries it is much less so.

Not saying that individualism is bad, it is both good and bad
