WDS with Linksys

i have a Linksys WRT54GX2v1 hooked up and a Linksys WRT54Gv6 sitting around.

id like to use the second router to extend the wireless network to the other side of my house. is it possible, and if so, how? neither of these router are *WRT/tomato friendly, so no flashing...

Sorry but No WDS with this thingy.

You can use a CAT5e cable and connect it to the current Wireless using it as an as Access Point.
Put it in a better position than the current Wireless, like in the hallway or similar spot using one cable.

most current wds solutions no longer support wpa security, and leave you with only wep as security. They dont tell you this up front (but it usually in fine print somewhere, or in the manual). the older belkins used to, but i was stuck at 6mb speeds

I'm moved away from this and went with the buffalo WLI-TX4-G54HP ethernet converters (4 port switches built in) connected using wpa-aes with my Buffalo WHR-HP-G54

no halving bandwith like wds, and stronger encryption..

I can get my full 15mb down fios from up stairs and across the house. haven't tested LAN - LAN speeds as i dont do much large file transfers between the two networks.

It been working so well, i just bought a second one to replace my dlink gaming adapter on my xbox360 in the basement. 2 ethernet converters, 1 router, 3 floors.. one flat 192.168.x.x netowrk connected together. 4700sqft covered.

DD-WRT supports the WRT54G v6 in its "micro" edition. This includes client bridge mode, but I'm not sure about the v24 repeater bridge mode. It might be worth a try.

<--setup quite a few 54GL's today

Usually you use micro to get the router drunk and then you flash it with the firmware of your choice
