I got a WDC from a friend that want me to trouble shoot it.. Basically it's got some bad sector, at certain spots, the drive cranks like theres no tomorrow.

When I use the WD dldiag utility, with extended scan, it comes back with nothing wrong, did the low level "0" writes and stuff and then another extended scan and it's still bad.

So I fdisk it and format it and the bad shows up.

How can I permanently mark those bad ? The only thing I know is good old Spinrite... is there something else I can try to really fully test the drive out ?

Probably not going to use it for anything other than temporary storage, drive at this stage is bound to fail any second now..

thanks for any idea..
