WD800JB not so fast?

Bluga

Banned

I bought one yesterday but when i ran Sissoft benchmark it appears that it's Slower than my 80GB Maxtor!

Is there something wrong here? Obviously i can't not feel its performance.

sandra's hd benchmark is a joke, not accurate.

use your sense to feel it, you can feel it.
try copy a lot files from cd-rom to hd, you can count how fast it writes.

use above methods to compare to the Maxtor.

I'd suggest posting the numbers here and then other owners of 800JB's can compare/contrast (I have one too). Alternatively, you can download some of the benchmarks that they use at other review sites (like storagereview.com - if they've reviewed the 800JB) and then compare your numbers with those.

If your 80GB maxtor is 7200 rpm with 2MB cache, I doubt anyone would notice a difference. Its one of those things that you need to benchmark [properly, see storagereview.com's benchmark suites] to see a tangible difference.

Can you really tell the difference between 200 fps at 1024x768 and 250fps?

Thanks, where can i find those software? Are they available for free?

Ok on Sisoft Sandra my WB 80GB (8MB)'s drive index is around 28634 kB/s

Also my computer seems to hang a lot more when i added this drive :Q

Did you replace your HDD or add another.

The system hang could be from the 2 HDDs competing for bandwidth.

I added another, could that cause crash?

I have both the maxtor and the wd drive. I think it's a little faster if anything as far as me noticing, but it isn't a big difference. i haven't done any real hdd benchmarks, but nero says me drivespeed is about 10mbps faster in it's little drive speed test for the wd. maybe i'll run sissoft to see what i get...

but i'm sooo lazy....
