I've built several systems and setup several new HDs, but I'm stumped on this one.

Just received a new WD800JB (80GB + large buffer).

FDISK reported no partitions initially, as it should.

Selected 'Create Primary DOS Partition'.
Told it No to using maximum available space.

FDISK scanned the HD and reported only 10,781MB total space available - where did my other 70 Gigs go?

Downloaded latest 'Data Lifeguard' utility, which reported size as 80GB with no errors.

I thought perhaps it might be due to using IDE3 Port (RAID port @ KR7A mobo), so reconfigured to use IDE1. Same problem.

FDISK version used was copied to bootable floppy from Command directory of Win98SE.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help!

Why are you using Windows 98? FDISK doesn't support disk size larger than 60gb I believe. You'll need to download a newer version of FDISK that supports larger disk size or use a third party utility. Just download and use the WD utility they have on there website. BTW if you have windows XP, you can boot off the cd and use it to format/partition.

Thanks, guys!

I really appreciate the help.

What has life come to that we can't even trust FDISK!
