I have two of these puppies. They are fast, quiet, and have so far served me well :)

I bought mine at $80 about 9 months ago - $60 is a steal!

I got this same drive a few weeks from NE for $60 shipped. I love it...it's much faster and quieter than the 320gb Seagate drive it replaced.

My 3 drive RAID 0 runs at an average of 280MB/sec with WB cache enabled

EDIT (it's short stroked to 640k, but I still use the rest of the drive on another partition)

Is there a faster drive on the market than this, outside of the Raptor and SSDs?

I think the new seagate 7200.12 500 GB single platter has it beat by a fair margin.... but.. some are having issues with them crashing and burning.

I still believe the black version with 32MB cache is better at almost the same price!

Another possibility here
Basically get a free metal external enclosure.

I think you might void the warranty if you yank it out of the case

The difference is very slight and, probably, not even noticable in real world useage. I believe the advantage to the black is a better warranty (if that matters)

I'm using the 640GB Black edition and it is a sweet drive. Very quiet and extemely fast. Black edition drives also have a 5yr. warranty. ;)
