Am I missing something John????

Mithrandir..(like the name BTW)
The thing is....the "Burst" throughput is indicitive of at least UDMA4(ATA66)..and that is where they measure the throughput at...in the burst....

All my other drives dont do this....Im running a VIA KT133A chipset. Same mobo in both my machine and the wifes....Mine is not having any probs.
I guess it is time to start switching the drives/controllers/cables around...

BTW..what is the max ATA for a 40pin IDE cable???
I am running an 80 pin, but was just wondering...

thx

With that burst speed, you have to be running ATA66. If you look at the graph closely, the very first data point is up around 35MB/s - which sounds very reasonable for the beginning of the disk - and then it drops down to 15MB/s for the rest of the test. It's as if something is "kicking in" and knocking down throughput. You say you have a KT133A...maybe you need to reinstall the latest 4-in-1s?

The max ATA for a 40-pin cable is ATA33.

Mithrandir,

that is exactly what I am thinking.

This is a Win98SE machine.

I believe I have tried the 4in1 (4.36's) and the default Microsoft Drivers.
Same thing.

My 2 options:
I have a formatted GXP60 (ATA100 also) that I can put on the Slave side and see what it reads
As my second option, I can expunge all the old 4in1's and other drivers.
I will then delete the controller and let it refind it.
then do the same test....

Are there any DOS benchmarks that you know of......to verifiy it is the drivers and not the drive???

thx

Sorry, I am not sure why I posted the initial reply. Odd.
