I already searched through and read draggoon01's thread, as well as the thread that was linked from one of the responses to his.
Anyway, I bought a WD2000JB (8mb cache) last April and it used to be quiet. Now it's making this whine ALL the time. I can only describe it as a high pitched motor-ish sound. Someone mentioned (in one of the posts alluded to above) that a bearing could have broken, but nothing more was said to that end. Is that a possibility? My entire drive is still functioning fine - it's just this damn noise.
Has anyone had experience with WD's warrantee policies with regard to noise? I've sent a couple of dead drives to them within a week of the warrantee's expiration and had them fully repaired free of charge; but in my case I still have a functioning drive. The whining just started all of a sudden, without warning. Should I begin to back my data up?
