WD1200JB Clunking and cutting off and on? Anyone else experience this?

If I barely touch any of the cables hooked to my WD1200JB it goes CLUNK and shuts off or back on. Doesn?t matter whether it?s the power cable or the ribbon. I?ve hooked up different power cables and changed the ribbon cable out, but doesn?t seem to make a difference.

Man, I just got this thing a couple of months ago (after my 36GB 10k SCSI drive died)? and now THIS!

I bought the SCSI drive several years ago because an IDE drive that crashed and caused me to loose TONS of data? When I got the SCSI drive I felt a lot more secure thinking my data was 10x more safe, so I didn?t do much backing up? WELL HELL!

Since my SCSI drive died and I?ve got this new WD drive, I have a full backup system in place where it copies files every time I boot up (only new or changed files), so I?m not worried about data lose.

HOWEVER! I?m TIRED OF THESE DANG HARD DRIVE PROBLEMS!

Man! Years ago, I never had problems with Hard Drives, it seems only the last 3 years I?ve had problem after problem? What gives?

Does the symptoms I?ve described sound familiar to anyone else owning a WDxxJB drive? I SWEAR I?ll never purchase another WD product if this drive is going bad! Luckily my OS isn?t on it.

I guess I?m going to have to go back to SCSI before it?s all over with. :(

Whassup?

I've seen this many times. Don't touch those cables! :)

If you hear that clacking by itself then you have a problem. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it.

Cheers!

sounds really strange.

I have a 'touching' problem with my soundcard.
if I touch the LineOut cable - WinAMP stops and windows won't play any sounds until I reboot. sucks.

That's when I first noticed it. I was working along and I heard "Clunk" and my PC froze.. I shut down, popped the side off and then discovered the problem. It doesn't normally do it, but I'm telling you I can practically "breath" on it and cause it to "clunk" on me.

I'm going to RMA the beyotch if it does it on it's own again. :| That's horrible
