Can someone tell me if the WD1000BB-75CHEO is the Special Edition Western Digital Caviar or just the plain Caviar? I'm getting two stories.

Thanks,

Mike

I wonder what the 75CHEO is in reference to. A quick search on google links you to this

Right, I've seen that. It looks promising, but I wanted to find some confirmation either way. I ended up with two of these, and wanted to make sure I didn't get taken to the cleaners by the dealer I got them from.

There was a BB and JB version of the 8MB drive.

I've seen that too. All the references to it that I've seen were to "BB-SE" though. I don't know if that was the model number, or lazy shorthand. :)

The WD1200JB has an 8 MB cache. If the model (MDL) number on the WD1200BB ends in CHEO, it also has
an 8 MB cache. If it ends in anything else, it has a 2 MB cache. Other than that, the drives are
identical.

Cheers!

Thanks! I saw the model number and assumed the worst. Calling WD got me a very nice but equally clueless tech who said if it didn't say JB, it was the 2MB drive.
