How do I prevent it from going to sleep ? Therefore stop slowing down My Computer and windows explorer in general on my PC.

Mainly would prevent a script or something on task manager if possible. Not another program. If possible. Thanks.

I heard if you write a small file to it ever few minutes it will keep it awake.

yes, you can use 'KeepAwake', which is a small program that will write a file to the drive every few minutes or so. works fairly well

from experience, some external drives will always sleep no matter what power saving settings you pick--so this is an easy workaround

If you're having trouble with your WD Wireless Pro Portable Hard Drive going to sleep and slowing down your computer, don't worry - there are a few things you can try. One option is to write a small file to the drive every few minutes to keep it awake. Another idea is to adjust your computer's power settings to prevent it from going to sleep or hibernating. You could also try updating the drivers for your hard drive or resetting it to its default settings. Just keep in mind that keeping your hard drive awake could drain the battery faster, so it's a trade-off between performance and battery life.
