I have about 150 video files on my hard drive that I use for my WD TV HD Media Player. The files are set to be seen in the player in "list view". Now, rather than seeing a simple, easy to read list, this is what I have: (Example)

Vacation1.mpg//427323987kb
File1.mpg/42123333b
Vacation3.mpg/45325987kb
TestVideo.mpg/4246463987kb
RockyMountains.mpg/2322717kb
MyFilm.mpg/8322733987kb
Vacation1.mpg//427323987kb
File1.mpg/42123333b
Vacation3.mpg/45325987kb
TestVideo.mpg/4246463987kb
RockyMountains.mpg/2322717kb
MyFilm.mpg/8322733987kb
Vacation1.mpg//427323987kb
File1.mpg/42123333b
Vacation3.mpg/45325987kb
TestVideo.mpg/4246463987kb
RockyMountains.mpg/2322717kb
MyFilm.mpg/8322733987kb
Vacation1.mpg//427323987kb
File1.mpg/42123333b
Vacation3.mpg/45325987kb

Instead of a clean cut file list.... I've contacted WD support, and after SEVEN days of back and forth conversations (mainly because they apparently can't understand what I am describing to you now) I finally get an answer.. and this is it:

Dear Brandon,

Thank you for contacting Western Digital Customer Service and Support.

I apologize for the inconveniences. At this time there's no way to disable it.

Sincerely,
Than B.
Western Digital Service and Support

So... Since Western Digital can't help, I come to those of you who are actually smarter than the people who support the device.

sorry i can't help you, but don't they have a support forum for that device, like the popcorn and other NMT's have?

I dont know. I dont have one. But it looks like a ID tag issue.
Try installing itunes. Loading a file in video. Check its name under info.
If the name is weird or not what you want, just rename it.
Sounds like a ID tag issue.

How do I load a .mpg in iTunes? With over 100 of these huge files I can't convert them.

If iTunes won't load them and allow me to change the data your talking about, what will exactly?

I've always been under the impression that these types of players always showed the file extension since most of them just list the files in a tree type view. I know when I had one back then that's what it did. Not too sure about the ones now. Maybe now there's an actual UI?

Did you check and see if they have a user forum for that device?
