WD Red vs Purple

hi guys
i need to expand my storage by another 6TB and am wondering which option is better?
my entire rig runs WD red, however I never heard of purple until now

Purple are meant to be used for running 24/7 surveillance/video related stuff, so the firmware is tweaked to that specific tasks.
Does that mean it will run like crap on other files? Doubtful.

It doesn't really matter which one you get, just make sure you have a backup. 6TB is lots of data to lose.

I've heard that the Purples can show some pretty odd performance in regular usage scenarios due to the specialized firmware. Don't have the source available, but I'm pretty sure I read it here in the forums, along with documentation. It's heavily optimized for relatively low intensity but cobstant sequential writes, which from what I remember means that random performance is abysmal. The hardware is the same as the Red, but the firmware makes them pretty different.
