It's a bit hard to decipher from WD's marketing stuff which of these drives would actually be better for larger storage solutions for video surveillance NVR's. Some of the units we use are just 2-4TB for smaller jobs but clients are now opting for more cameras and much higher res cameras. So we are finding that we need 6-12TB in a lot of cases so that there is 2-4 weeks storage.
Are there any good reasons to go with the Red drives vs. the AV-GP drives? Cost is about the same now, so not really a factor. Typical install is in a 4U case or mid-tower on a MB with 6 SATA III ports and they are not RAIDed.
