Hey itsofficial im jumping ship from Intel to Amd (Dual core) in a couple of months im going to upgrade my current computer. I have 1 question what do the wd raptors (10,000 rpm) have over other drives ie sata or sata2. None of the AMD mobo support the NCQ so thats not an option. Please tell me other than loading up faster when i turn the computer on what does it do? I do some video encoding but mostly dvd ripping and burning and am learning photoshop. How much of a difference is it between sata2 and the wd raptors? Thanks for any info

A Raptor is great as an OS and programs drive, because the fast access time tends to make the system "snappier." If you want a Raptor at all, get just one and then buy a very large 7200rpm drive (or three) for your data storage needs.

All Nforce 4 AMD mobo's have NCQ support and SATA 2 support...

If you can wait i would go for your storage drives now, then when the WD 16mb cache SATA 2 raptor comes out buy it then...

I been using scsi for all my pc up till now, only because raid adapter are so fricken expensive.. I move all my scsi into my old xeon server, 2 raid adapter & 12 drives and now using 74gb raptor in desktop and I can't tell the difference between the two..

its fast enough but if you want faster, consider that gigabyte ram drive :)

<-- is envious of anyone who has plenty of "extra old memory lying around" that happens to be at least PC2700 spec DDR :Q
