WD Raptor incompatible with Samsung 243T monitor..wtf?!

Well. yeah.. this is so strange it's beyond all my comprehension.

I recently purchased a WDC Raptor 74 gig and for the first time in my life a legal copy of XP pro (!!)

Installation went fairly smoothly but when I get into windows and set the native resolution (1920*1200) I get very VERY weird.. image disruption. They only occured as I moved the mouse initially but they gradually got worse and eventually the screen stopped syncing at that resolution! 🙁 🙁 🙁

The disruption was very VERY weird. IE windows and other program windows appeared everywhere.. flickered shortly. If I closed all windows the normal picture would return. But as I said.. now it won't sync at all at that resolution. Not even in my old Win2k installation 🙁

Another weird thing is that it stopped syncing in XP before it did in win2k! I could switch between os's and it would work perfectly in win2k and not in xp.

I have an Abit nf7-s mobo, 512 megs of ram and a sapphire radeon 9000 pro gfx card.
Are there any known problems with gfx on this board when using the sata controller?

I would be very very very thankful for any advice on this no matter how small.

Thanks.

Those parts arent related at all, the only thing i could think of is a weak power supply, but that would cause random restarts rather than distortion on the display.

It could be the display going bad out of coincidence, or maybe your mobo isnt grounded properly.

I agree. I can't think of a single situation where a hard drive could directly affect motherboard resolution. Maybe it's just Windows being stupid?

Hey there peeps.. Thanx for your replies.

I know it probably is my display that has gone bad. But the "visual distorsion" I had before it stopped syncing didn't seem.. uhm.. "electrical".. if there was soemthing wrong with the screen it shouldn't have shown internet explorer windows all over.. sounds like the gfx card to me.. BUT.. since it works on analogue.. and dvi+ analogue adapter... I dunno!

It's just.. weird!

I had a Case fan do this once on mine. I disconnected the case fan it the distortion went away. Of course it could have been the power supply....or the fan motor put out a little bit of frequency that messed around with the video card or something.
