WD Raptor, help to install

OK I haven't bought it yet, but I'm about to jump in on either of the following deals:

WD Raptor 36gb for $79.99 AR
or the
WD Raptor 74gb for $155 AR

I guess I have several options here:
1) Buy two of the 36gb and set up in RAID 0 and use as my primary boot drive
2) Buy one of the 74gb and use as my primary boot drive
3) Buy one of the 36gb and use as my primary boot drive

If money isn't a huge issue, which would you recommend (forget about two 74gb) in terms of getting the most bang for your buck? Would two 36gb in RAID 0 be noticeably faster than one 74gb? What about a 36 vs 74 straight up?

I would get the 74. I got a 36 when they came out and am just now getting ready to get a 74. I only use it for the OS and games for the most part (I have a 200gig sata for storage), but its getting pretty full.

I wouldn't bother with the RAID. For almost all desktop users its not going to make much if any difference. Just go with the larger drive (which is also slightly faster then the 36, and I believe quieter on top of that).

2nd that vote on the 74 gig!

3rd vote on 74GB.
Just over a year ago I got 2 36GB Raptors and put them in RAID 0. Since then I've taken them out of RAID and been using them independently, and have seen barely any difference in speed.
The newer 74GB Raptor is reportedly noticeably faster than the 36GB.

4th vote for the 74Gig. As far as RAID, that depends on your system loading. But for most desktop users, there isn't any difference.

OK, on a related note, I need help w/ the following

Current setup:
One 160gb SATA partitioned (using Partition Magic) into two: C: has my OS and progs, and D: storage

How can I do the following:

1) format the old C: drive
2) "de-partition" and combine old C: and D: drives together on the 160gb so that the entire HD is now the D: drive
3) install the OS on the new Raptor as a C: drive
4) do all this without losing any of the files on D:

thanks!
