how are you transfering to the NAS?

Are u doing it over Wifi?
Do you have a 1GB ethernet wire routed to your PC and router?

Your not giving us enough info to help you troubleshoot.

How fast is windows reporting the files being copied?

Copy/Paste to NAS from Windows (mapped network drive).

Non-Wifi transfers

Yes - 1GB Ethernet

Transfer speed is 7.6Mb but can go as high as 70Mb. Most (95%) of the time its around 5Mb. Very slow.

As of today - I can't connect to it from the internet or from iPhone.

It might be throttling itself due to heat. Are you able to add some auxiliary cooling/airflow during the initial heavy file transfers when loading up your files the first time?

I have a different model, but it made a huge difference because they relay on throttling to deal with heat issues, so it runs quiet. Another fan or something will keep it cooler and prevent as much throttling, so the CPU should run faster.

It's possible. I'll see if I can cool it down. Even accessing the new mapped drive. I click a "documents" folder, it takes nearly 60 seconds to show the contents of that folder.

Oh, as a test, you may want to unplug the device and wait like 25 minutes to let it cool off. My instruction manual specifically mentioned this as a way to address strange heat-related throttling issues. I just put the device on top of a USB-powered cooling pad with fans for a laptop, and it works great. Not sure if that would help yours, as yours seems like a different design.

I had an older version of this (MyBook Live) that had similar speed issues. Started strong then slowed down terribly a few weeks later, wired gigabit connection. Mine really didn't function as intended as a NAS, so I just harvested the drive out of it and tossed the firmware board and case. The drive itself got warm, but the hardware connected to it was roasting, and it was sitting on an open shelf with reasonable airflow.

I installed the WD Quick View software and enabled alerts. Both say temperature is "OK."

I'll just let it rest over the next few days - it did do a few days worth of data transferring to the drive.

Update:

I let the drive sit and didn't touch it for a couple of days as I was out of town. It works now, and boy it's working fast. I can access it from all of my devices and from the pc itself. Transfer speeds are still a tad slow but now it moved a 4GB file in 23 minutes.

Maybe the initial setup & file transfers had the drive bogged down. I did notice all the JPG images have been renamed.. WD 001, WD 002, etc. It doesn't matter because i never named them to begin with.

That's weird it renamed your JPGs. Did you perform the copy using some WD utility?

I did my copies using plain old Windows file manager, and all data was identical without any renaming, including my home picture album that is entirely JPGs and MP4s.

I want to look into somehow drilling holes into the case to increase airflow, so I don't even have to worry about heat or use the auxiliary laptop cooling pad.

Is it possible to see (and post here) the SMART attributes of the disk ?

If you think heat is an issue and are not using the USB port you can use a small USB personal fan or laptop fan.

So here's what's working great:

Since the read/write of the WD 3TB Cloud drive isn't super fast. (it's decent, but not fast).

I'm using a 2TB external HDD for my data. Every night at 11PM I created a scheduled task to run "SyncToy." SyncToy takes the data of the 2TB and echos onto the 3TB Cloud.

Every morning the 3TB Cloud drive is up to date matching the fast external drive. If I need docs, photos, music, vids, etc while on the go - my Cloud drive is ready & set with new data.

Just thought I'd share.
