wd mybook premium problem

i have the wd mybook premium 400gb external drive and for the most part works. but sometimes the drive has a problem where it won't spin back up when its off and i turn it back on or when i turn on the computer. the led will light up but the drive and the fan will not start up. i have to unplug and plug in the drives power multiple times for it to work. does anybody else have this problem? and does anybody have a fix for it?

I have the exact same problem.

160gb mybook.

I have 3. One at apt, and 2 others at my other home(mother and sister). All of them do the same thing. Sometimes it depends on how I "properly disconnect" the hardware. My Mac doesn't have a problem when I just...pull it out. In windows, it just won't shut off(the led) that is. Unplugging it and plugging it back works though. Shouldn't have to though.

I have a standard 250GB MyBook and I've never seen that happen. Maybe it's just a defective drive? I've seen stores (CircuitCity) pushing that drive like it's a TMX Elmo lately.

it's a popular drive. i think if you do everything "properly" as far as connect disconnect it works fine. however, all my experiences with these drives match gnomecop's exp.
