WD MyBook essential enclosure and non WD replacement drive

Hey all,

I have a spare WD MyBook enclosure and a spare 500GB Seagate SATA drive. It seems that when I put that drive in the MyBook enclosure it does not mount. Thinking the enclosure was bad, I put in a WD drive to test it and it mounts just fine.

My question is that it seems as if I can only put a WD drive in the MyBook enclosure. Does anyone know a way to "reset" or reconfigure the WD MyBook to work with a non-WD (i.e. Seagate) hard drive? Can't seem to find anything on the net regarding this. Seems like someone had the same issue a while ago here on AT, but no solution. Just wondering if any new info is avialable on this issue.

Thanks!

One quick idea, I have no idea if this will actually help, but does the Seagate drive have a jumper to force it to SATA150 mode? I've seen this fix some enclosure compatibility issues.

I use Seagate 1.5 TB drives in WD MyBook enclosures that had WD 1TB Green Drives in them originally.
Works fine and have been that way for a while.
