Awesome price on a good 1TB drive for everyday use. Beware the RAID horror stories though...

What's special about that 2tb red drive?

Western Digital Red Review
WD touted the following main points

Less aggressive head parking (no IntelliPark feature)
Configurable Time Limited Error Recovery (TLER), with a default of 7 seconds
IntelliPower disk rotation speeds (comparable to Green drives)
Vibration reduction mechanism in hardware
3-Yr. warranty and 24x7 phone support

Another review

Here's my take on these. 5400RPM (no matter how much WD touts their "IntelliPower") with high platter density makes it good for mass storage, not for running stuff off. TLER makes it suitable for NAS and RAID. Longer warranty than Green/Blue, with higher MTBF may (or may not) indicate higher build quality. Also, no irritating constant head parking like other 5400RPM drives.

Come to think of it... it is like a 5400RPM version of the WD RE ("RAID Edition" enterprise drive).

That 1TB Black is hella deal - old school price
I have bought dozens and dozens of them over time, and the only blip was one that had a vibration (but still worked O.K.)
