Does the Lifeguard utility normally take very long to complete and is it necessary to finish running it before exchanging it under warranty?
A harddisk started giving problems (occassionally slow) and checking the crystaldew disk utility shows some reallocated sectors.
Reallocated sector count 196(orig 200)
Pending sector count 200(orig 200)
Uncorrectable sector count 200(orig 200)
The WD diagnostic gives no warning symbols and has a pass for SMART status. The quick test passed. The estimated time to complete for the extended test after about 2 hours of running is >400hrs so I don't want to wait. Stopping the extended test and clicking on the option to repair bad sectors gave an error message "Unable to repair bad sectors".
SMART Status: PASS
Test Result: FAIL
Test Error Code: 08-Unable to repair bad sectors
