I don't know if this is effective in all areas, but at least in the South. Best Buy is running an in-store add for the WD300BBRTL which is an internal drive at 7200RPM, ATA-100, at 30GB. The deal is $10 off ($139) and you get an immediate rebate for $20 off DVD's. Seems pretty good to me if you like Western Digital drives and have a DVD player. Here is the

Bought the drive on Sunday, but didnt get the $20 off. Argued a bit with a CSR and they cut price to 119 :p Count in my $60 GC for Christmas and it was a hot deal ;)

On the bright side, it's a fast, quiet drive.

Well, I just got mine. No problems. Although...the way they rang it up gives me a thought. Instead of taking the cost off of the DVD, they took it off the HD. So if they don't check, you might be able to return the DVD at full value and still get the HD for $20 less. Dig? Might be worth a shot, but it's pretty underhanded. ;)

Don't expect that trick to work.. you need your reciept to return the vid.. otherwise they just give you a store credit. And then you have to argue with a manager.. but if you're into that sorta thing, then by all means, knock yourself out :)

The reason they take the price off the hard drive is so their accessory #'s look better.. as mainstream product does not have much of a markup, it is not as important as accessories, which can range from 10-300% markup...

These drives are fast and quiet. I twin ones like this on a Abit BX-133 RAID that score mid 35,000's on Sandra.

I hear a lot of people complaining about WD HDs. I would go with the IBMs that was floating around for awhile.

I just RMA'd a 75GXP, so to each his own. One caveat. Unless you want to use the EZ-BIOS util, leave the jumper in a neutral position. I found that out the hard way.
