WD Blue WD20EZAZ 2TB 5400 RPM 256MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive $49.99

Edit: I think that this is the cheapest that this drive has even been from Newegg, sold as "New". I wonder if the downward price pressure of SSDs, is putting downward price pressure on smaller-capacity (under 6TB) HDDs as well, then?

These would make an adequate Steam drive, but you can get 2TB 2.5" SSDs for $175 these days too, and those would theoretically last longer, and run cooler and quieter. To say nothing of your PC being more vibration and drop-proof, if you often "adjust" your PC for various reasons, or need to pull it out or tip it up while running.

Note also that I've seen ex-server refurbs of Hitachi 7K6 4TB 3.5" HDDs around the same or slightly more. Those would be twice the capacity, possible or probably 7200RPM, but of slightly more questionable quality. Warranty from a quality vendor will likely be the same, I think that the WD Blue 5400RPM HDDs only have two years of factory warranty.

In any case, once these drives hit $40-45 ea., and 480/512GB-class 2.5" SATA SSDs hit $39.99 (very soon!), those will probably be my standard storage load-out for "Gaming PCs", unless they have some special requirements. (Or a 256GB NVMe.)

Edit: 2020-10-15: Now $49.99 without promo code.

I would want 7200RPM, but the price is not bad. I might be intereseted in some of those Hitachis.

Here's some Hitachi 7K4 3TB 3.5" HDDs for ~$39 from goHardDrive on Newegg.

The lowest I found for some 7K6 4TB HDDs was around $70.

Any good deals on the 2TB drives? And how is the performance on those?

Anyone know of a good desktop HDD for general storage and games, 4TB or higher, must be 7200RPM or higher, must have 5 year warranty? Only found WD blacks so far, and possibly some Seagate Barracuda Pro drives at higher capacity and price.

Obvoiusly the cheaper the better, but it would need to have a 5 year warranty. Refurbished is ok as long as all above requirements are true and it works fine. Looking probably between 4 to 8 TB.

Not a bad price, although I've bought enterprise 2TB drives like this before for around the same price.

That's a pretty decent deal on those HGSTs since they're 3TB, but it always depends on the condition when used.

Still, those models of HGST drives are what built HGST's reputation for reliability. I have several of the 1TB models with various high levels of usage and they are still running after their previous like in an enterprise data center. These are not some quiet consumer drives, but some louder, more purposeful and hotter running enterprise ones that do the job day-in and day-out.

PM me--especially if you can run SAS. SAS really opens the door to the quality drives.
