I have got a WD 750GB HD back from 2007, but I put it aside for a while. Today I put it back to a PC and checked smart info and it all looks good.

But it seems losing power/connection from time to time. When I attached it the to computer either with SATA or USB interface, it seems losing power/connection from time to time.

The HD is on for 13536 hours.

Is it planned obsolescence or what? It seems HD always die if you put it aside for a while, why is that?

Should I just throw it away?

What's up with the S drive?

I had a 1TB throw a caution in crystaldisk earlier this year and had it replaced under warranty. I didn't notice any problems...but man o man...was it a PAIN to transfer the files off of the drive. Had to redownload a lot of my steam library because files had been corrupted. Obviously it was going bad and I didn't know about it.

The funny thing is it's a Samsung 1.5T drive that its SMART info always says 10 sectors were relocated, and it shows the same number every time I checked. I have used this drive and moved files around for several years and NOT a single problem.

On the other hand, whenever I tried to run long test on this WD 750GB drive, it loses connection immediately, yet the SMART info shows everything is good.
