Does MWave package the bare hard drives carefully (e.g. anti-static bag, wrapped in bubble wrap, then in a generous box with lots of foam peanuts)?

And is their customer service responsive if there is a problem? (don't know about MWave because I always just use Newegg)

I can't speak to the exact wrapping on a OEM HDD (they haven't arrived yet) but they have been really good to me so far. I just started buying from them with the RAM deals and I'm impressed - did refund on an item that dropped in price a week after I bought it with no fuss.

I just ordered three of these from directron with a coupon for a Hardware Raid 5 array. They're faster than the Seagate 7200.10s in transfer rate, and destroy them in multithreaded read/writes and IO performance, as Seagate has terrible firmware on their drives. Samsung drives have fast transfer rates, but their multithreaded IO performance isn't so hot, and I do not trust Samsung drives. I've seen too many of them fail at the shop I work at.

These drives also are the first WD drives to have a head-parking feature; the only other manufacturer with this feature is hitachi. They also have a pre-emptive wear leveling feature.

I looked at Directron too. Unfortunately for me, they are just a few miles away and the tax kills the convenience fatctor. :(

Well you be sure to let us know when you see it won't you? The best I can find on a 500GB SATA drive is Newegg this weekend -- Seagate 500GB = $119 with promocode and freeshipping.

This drive is faster than that 500GB. This is the 5000AAKS, not the 5000ks. It uses 166GB platters.

Now that I have them in hand, I can reply to this...
Ordered Monday, received Thursday (same as a NE order placed same day) - manufacturers anti-static bag (unopened), wrapped in multilayer bubble-wrap inside a peanut filled box.
Looks like they know what they're doing :)
