I had some luck with being able to find this deal. I selected for in store pick-up, as it is sold out online. Luckily, the store in Bloomington, IL had one in stock for me. Maybe some of you guys can have some luck with it as well. You can check availability on the web site.

It is only USB 2.0 and not firewire, but this is still a pretty sweet deal on an external 500 gig. I know OD has one for like $99.99 right now too. You might even be able to price match this product with places like Best Buy and Office Depot, etc.

That kind requires separate power, correct? Unlike the 2.5" externals that draw power from USB? This is a key factor for me as I would want to use it to enable large file storage and transfers between my desktop, laptop, and PS3. Requiring an outlet is a no-go for me. 🙁

Requires a power source/outlet. :/ Sorry.
I know the feeling. I have 4 of these. heh.

Nice price indeed. Makes it hard for me to hold off for the 1TB drive.

EDIT: Of course, that decision is made for me since it's not available in any of the stores in my area.

Very nice price actually. Would have been a killer deal if it also came with eSATA. OOS all around me as well.

Can't find one of these, but boy would I love one.

Decisions, decisions. I have two older (but still good) WD 120 and 160 gig PATA drives. I need a new drive, and my mobo supports SATA. So it makes sense to buy a new SATA HD. But then I need an enclosure. But do I get a IDE enclosure? An SATA one? A combo? But I want it to be quiet, and spin down when not being used. So do I get a pre-built one like this? Or do I get the drive and make my own?

I guess it makes the most sense to get a new SATA drive, stick it in my box, pop one of the older IDE drives in an enclosure. But it'd be a shame to get only an IDE enclosure, since, eventually, I might want to put a bigger SATA drive in there. And what if the enclosure I buy is cheap/loud (with fans and what not?)

Sigh. I think I should start doing hard drugs.

Yea most likely the hard drugs would be cheaper! I am in the same boat, but I want more capacity than my PATA drives will hold.

Had one in my basket but the site locked up. I called and rep said all were gone in my district but they were still available on the west coast and in Colorado... but he couldn't ship to me because the warehouse covering my district was out. Good luck to left coasters.

So go get yourself an Antec MX-1 enclosure. It does have a fan but it is quiet. And it offers both USB 2.0 and eSATA. Only downside is the price but CC and others often have it on sale for $40.

I went in to my local Staples and they had one of these left on clearance table for $99 will they price match this deal??
