I get Newegg Newsletters, but don't recall seeing this one so props to SD. I'm glad I waited on the $90 Samsung deal.

Note that this is the "old" WD 2TB drive so it is better for Windows XP/Server 2003 while the "new" version with 64MB cache is better for Vista/7. This is due to the new 4k Advanced Format or something. Also, while these make good data drives they are teh suck for boot/application drives. Finally, rumor is that TLER is still settable in EADS (for RAID).

So do I, yet there are always these secret coupon codes popping up. Weird. :\

Oh, and I bit. Thanks, OP. 🙂

It may be worth spending the extra $10 to get the Samsung from Newegg. It's ratings are way better than the WD. The WD has 18% 1 egg reviews while the Samsung has only 3% of its reviews for 1 egg.

The Samsung also has 81% 5 eggs, while the WD has 52% 5 eggs.

Yeah, I think it's worth $10 more.

The WD has 429 reviews.

The Samsung has 115 reviews.

Just for comparison for statistics.

Transmuted a Visa rebate card into a Newegg gift card yesterday, before I read about this deal. Decided to use my forthcoming Newegg card towards the purchase. Few hours later, Newegg card order still hasn't been completed -- they're certainly not Amazon (bear this in mind, those of you considering Newegg cards as last-minute gifts).

The next day (today), I decide I'll pull the trigger anyhow. The WDs are still in stock in the morning. A little later, I revisit Newegg -- sold out! And a few minutes after that, my Newegg gift card lands in my email. Ugh.

This is most likely because the F4 just came out early last month. I picked up one last week for $85 and it's a great HD. Much lower in heat, noise and better performance than other 2TB drives I own. IMO It's worth the extra few $ to get the Samsung, it's pretty much the same price as the other 2TB 5400/5900RPM drives anyways.
