This was news to me when it popped up. For the longest time, if you had wanted a 7200RPM HDD from WD, you HAD to buy one of their (insanely overpriced, likely due to longer warranty) WD Black drives. At that time, WD Blue drives larger than 1TB were only 5400RPM (re-labeled WD Green family), and WD Red were also 5400RPM. Since then, they've come out with their WD Red Plus drives, which come in various larger sizes, and are 7200RPM. My guess is that these WD Blue 2TB 7200RPM drives MAY be down-binned WD Red Pro 2TB 7200RPM drives, and, depending on how sucessful they are in the market, we may see 4TB and 6TB WD Blue 7200RPM drives (at a much shorter warranty than their premium WD Black 7200RPM HDDs, but at a better price).
It's about time! WD has been very slow to respond to this market, 7200RPM desktop HDDs larger than 1TB, on a budget. Both Seagate and Toshiba have been servicing this market for a while now.
Anyways, a quick DDG search, seems to show that these drives showed up in the UK and AU market first, and perhaps the ones at Newegg are even grey-market imports (check the warranty with WD Warrant checker when you get the drives, folks!), as they've done that before with some items.
That said, given the increasing size of games these days, if you want a "Steam Drive", and don't want to spend a lot, these should be good bang-for-buck, as well as the Seagate 2TB 7200RPM 3.5" desktop HDD @ $49.99, or a Toshiba 4-6TB 7200RPM, either the X300 or N300 drives.
