Man, Staples needs to start carrying WD...I hate waiting for rebates.

You may want to add "AR" to your title...as many forum Nazis will complain that you didn't denote the mail-in rebate required to get that price. :)

Yeah, saw this one--wasn't sure if it was deal-worthy but it tempted me:

- It's a Western Digital SE drive, the highest rated IDE performer according to StorageReview.
- It has a 3-year warranty, which are becoming less common for IDE.
- It includes a controller card in case you have an uncooperative motherboard.
- It's a nice size. :)
- Ground shipping to me is just $6.02, and no tax: comes to $.88/GB after rebate ($1.48/GB before).

Also looked at the 250GB version that CompUSA is selling for $229 AR.
Tax and shipping kill that one, though: bringing it up to $258 AR, or $1.03/GB.

does it seem to anyone else like there's been an unusual number of manufacturer rebates on HDs lately? maybe I'm paranoid, but is there about to be some explosion of new, cheaper-per-GB drives that I haven't heard about?

You should mention AR / after rebate in the title. When I first read it I was ready to break out the old credit card - still a good deal assuming the rebate comes through.
