Hey guys,

Sunday's BB ad shows that you can get the WD 20.5gp 7200rpm HD for $160 - $30 mail in rebate = $130. An top of that, u can get a $25 GC by mail from BB for future use, so it's kinda like getting the HD for $105. Not bad for a nice HD that's quiet and fast.

I just looked on allstarshop.com . It's $125 and it's a bare drive. I'd say the Best Buy deal is much better.

KotchY,

What are you telling us? Mwave.Com has the 20.5 GB **retail** drive, but it's price is $174.33, the bare drive is $129.00:

<<
WD 20.5GB 205BARTL EIDE ULTRA-ATA/66 9MS 7200RPM (Retail) Detail Specs $174.33 YES
>>

<<
WD 20.5GB 205BA EIDE ULTRA-ATA/66 9.5MS 7200RPM 2MB BUFFER (Bare drive) Detail Specs $129.00 YES
>>

I think comparing a retail drive against a bare drive is like comparing apples to oranges. The retail kit should feature an ATA-66 cable and mounting brackets (Maxtor includes them). If you purchase a bare drive, then you need to pay additional amounts to get them.

Actually, I would rather get the OEM ones.. especially when it's a WD drive. I have a friend working at WD, he says the retail lots are the ones that scored poorest on their QA. The top notched ones are distributed to the computer manufacturer (ie: compaq, dell, etc) and OEM. Don't ask me why, I always thought retails are the best too.. until now.
