WD 1TB WD1001FALS Caviar Black $109

Yep, this is the best price on this drive yet. The undisputed champ of 1TB drives for speed and reliability.

Pick up three or four. These will always be among the top tier of drives until they start making SSDs in 500GB capacities.

Dell charges tax for Californians, TD doesn't

thanks for the option though

Also TD has 5% cashback through live.com

anyone know how to get it higher, please post!

2132 action packed games?

Engineer raises hands and waves wildly in the back of the room...pick me...pick me! 😱

Go to www.live.com, type in "LCD" (without quotes) in the search box and refresh until you see the 10% Tigerdirect. Click on link, buy drive, get 10% back via MS Livecash in about 60 days.

i've never used cashback before...

so you just click the link that Infrnl provided and find the drive then buy it and you'll get an email saying you saved 10%?

I already have a live cashback account, but I think if you click the link; it will allow you to register first. Just make sure when you log in that it specifically says you are now earning cashback and it will automatically send you to the tiger direct site.

Plus 4.99 shipping.
thats $1.34 cheaper

Dell is also out of stock... and been that way for a while. As stated, cheapest I have seen someplace that has it in-stock. And as pointed out, Dell charges tax to everyone but the few who live in Delaware and the other sales tax free state (Vermont? New Hampshire?... one of them). So add back in 6-8% taxes and you get $117-118 shipped when the drive at tiger is $112 shipped... Then add in cash back from live (which I forgot about)...

Mind you, those of us that live in TD land (at least FL) have to pay tax buying from them. OTOH, I may be able to pick up and avoid the shipping. However, I don't know if there is a way to make the M$ cash back work with a pickup...

In. Looking at 4 of these to backup 1TB of data. 2 internal to keep as duplicates, one as external to keep in a safe at home home, and a fourth to keep out of the house somewhere.

Maybe you can keep it in Fort Knox.

Boy that's a lot of work to keep a porn collection safe.

Ordered one. $100.98 shipped after $11 cash back is pretty decent.
Anyone recommend a decent cheap eSata enclosure that would work with this drive?

nice..any benchmarks on how these perform speed-wise compared to the 640gb black? does one less platter make any difference?

Comparison of 1TB drives...

http://www.storagereview.com/p...1&devID_2=369&devCnt=3

Some numbers from other sites:

Western Digital WD6401AALS-00L3B 640GB 32MB Cache Caviar Black
Transfer Rate:
Min. ? 56.6 MB/s
Max. ? 113.8 MB/s
Average ? 94.2 MB/s
Access Time ? 12.3 ms
Burst Rate ? 122.6 MB/s

Western Digital WD1001FALS-00J7B 1000GB 32MB Cache Caviar Black
Transfer Rate:
Min. ? 51.8 MB/s
Max. ? 111.2 MB/s
Average ? 92.5 MB/s
Access Time ? 12.3 ms
Burst Rate ? 231.7 MB/s

I don't know about the burst speed in the for the 1TB drive. I suspect that had more to do with something caching. Otherwise, they are pretty darn close. Probably close enough that the difference is the margin of error between multiple runs of HD Tune (where the numbers were generated).

Not meaning to thread crap because this WD 1tb is an awesome hard drive.
But where can you get the Hitachi Deskstar e7K1000 HTE721010SLA330 listed in that hard drive comparison link?
