WD 160GB JB numbers

After the disappointment that was the DM+9 I got a WD 160GB JB drive today which I expected much better things from. I believe this drive uses the same 66MB/platter drives that the 200GB uses (2.5 x 66 = 165GB). The numbers are bit more impressive than the DM+9:

STR beginning: 56.2MB
STR end: 38.4MB
Avg: 48.5MB/s

access time= around 14ms

I can't seem to get a consistent measurement on access time, it varies anywhere from 13.7ms up to around 14.7ms. I may run some other winbench numbers later and compare them to the 120JB, but for now, this drive seems to be a pretty good performer.

I just ran the STR test in Winbench and came up with some very odd results. Unlike Tom's results my graph is a completely smooth staircase, there isn't one spike in the entire graph. It starts out a bit higher than Tom's drive and smoothly drops down to about 40MB/s around the 130GB mark. Then for some really odd reason it shoots back up to around 56MB/s and stays there for the last 30GB or so of the drive with only one downward step. The end result is that according to WB my starting STR is 56.6MB/s and my ending STR is 56.1MB/s. I've run it multiple times and keep getting the same result. Odd. WB also pegs access time at near 15ms. So I don't really know what to make of the results, this is the first drive I've seen that has greatly differing results between Winbench and HDTach.
