I am on my 2nd Western Digital 120GB 7200 drive. First one had a transfer rate problem.... now the 2nd one has the same problem. Drive seems to work for first month or so... then gets real slow...

Tested with HDTach and even a simple Nero test. Both show the drive transmitting at 3MB/sec.. whereas my Maxtor does 27MB/sec. The burst speed is still good, but it won't sustain a transfer... Weird thing is it shows no errors... even in WD DataLifeguard tools. The only way to notice is if you test... or copy large files (or use as your OS drive).

Just wondering how many other are having the same problem.... or didn't even know they were having this problem..

I suggest you test your drive...!

Config:
A7M266
AMD XP1700
512 MB Ram
Maxtor 46GB 7200 ATA100 (Master)
WD 120GB 7200 ATA100 (Slave)

Ive had no problems with the 120GB 2MB cache version that Ive had for a little over a year. My two 120GB 8MB cache WDs are doing just fine after about 8 months of usage.

Try swapping your data cables and see if that is the problem.

Both my 120GB 8MB cache WD's are doing fine. If you do have DMA enabled, have you checked your cables? Bad cables can sometimes cause problems. Also, putting a ATA100 drive on the same channel as a ATA33 drive can cause the whole system to slow down, since everything reverts to the slowest element on a channel.
