WD 100GB 7200rpm HD w/ 2mb

I was wondering if anyone has tried these hard drives from WD ? I heard that these drives use some sort of compressive and are difficult to setup. But i doubt that!

Anyone have any feedback ?

BTW, i'm just about to pick one up for $320 CDN - which is a steal!

I picked up a WD 1000BB from a local large retailer (Sam's Club) for US$125 ($225 - $100 MIR). I'm pretty pleased with it. It's pretty fast, pretty quiet, mostly cool and has been running great for me during the last month. The seek times are pretty awful, but the transfer rates are very high.

It wasn't difficult at all to set up, and there's no compression on it. It's a true 100GB drive (using the goofy MB definition of the HD manufacturers, anyway).

HD Tach:
Read speed (max): 40,466 kps
Read speed (avg): 32,741 kps
Seek: 13.6ms

I've got one of these drives...Its fast, quiet, and it was very easy to set up. You might want to try and find the 8MB cache version if you can afford it. I hear that one's even faster. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to use all of this extra hard drive space 😉
