Excuse a quick comment on this entirely off-topic branch of the discussion:
it would still be fun to do just hoping one day all your coins would be worth a bit more
If you consider it fun to play in a pyramid scheme, and hoping to be a victim that is not sitting at the bottommost layer...

Cryprocoin tokens don't turn into money by magic. Consider what goes on there and whether it is ethical by your standard. Everybody (of those who don't stop thinking as soon as there is a prospect of being given money) will come to their own conclusions, since ethics are cultural and subjective.

Well, this went to downhill fast. Mention bitcoin and everyone loses their minds.

My main point to the thread, was that one day someone could be using your data that was crunched, in a rather "unethical" way. I would imagine that if I made any money off of whatever coin I was crunching for, I would turn around and donate them back to the cause I was crunching for. Seti takes coins as a donation.

However I agree...Just like the stock market, toss the all mighty dollar (the root of all evil) into any situation, along with mans ego.... Someone is bound to get burned. Do your due diligence, as they say in the realtor business.

Life's too short... Have fun!

It's an allergic reaction of mine, and pretty predictable too. Gonna need to remember to take my immunosuppressants quick when I read suggestions such as #23.

A good thing about WCG may then be that not only we but also IBM are acting as donor. And therefore they first convince themselves that they don't take a leech onboard when they accept a project proposal...

WCG's stipulation is that the results get made public for anyone to draw from. However, they get a reasonable amount of time to draw from their results first. I personally don't care if someone gets rich off of the findings as long as we get better treatments or cures. I would rather find an expensive cure than none at all.

I am sure it costs a fortune to bring a new drug to market, at least here in the USA it does.
The cost of lawyers, trial stages, more research.
Liability insurance or maybe a bond of some sort for when they get sued.
They will get sued, a few people always seems to have a bad reaction no matter how many other people it cures.
They will sue. If enough people, a class action suit. Watch TV and see all the ads
"Have you or a loved one taken the drug ********** and got sick or died, call Wesuem and How 888-888-88888

I hope they can fix this data sharing issue quickly. IBM is a big target with deep pockets, so they have to make sure they cover their ass. Again lawyers and being sued. Litigation nation.
