VC is part of the source for the previous link, but here's an added tidbit:

This is pretty much what we’ve expected. The R9 290X will feature Hawaii XT GPU with 2816 Stream Processors. In addition to that we have 176 TMUs and 44 ROPs. The base clock is 800 MHz and Turbo clock is 1000 MHz. You should probably get used to turbo clock, since this is how AMD is calling their boost clock from now on – the mechanism of this technology is very similar NVIDIA’s temperature driver GPU Boost, but for details you will have to wait at least two weeks when proper reviews will be published.

AMD R9 290X is using 4GB GDDR5 memory across 512-bit interface with bandwidth of 320GB/s. The memory clock is 1250 MHz (5 GHz effective). The same site even posted a die size of the Hawaii GPU — which is almost exactly what we’ve calculated — 424 mm2.

Does 3dmark have a history of misreporting the amount of memory on a card?

yeah 3dmark misreports anything & everything except the score you receive. That bench was done on the volcanic Island preview driver which isn't public yet. (13.250.xx)

Wonder what part # the Hynix GDDR5 is? Will it do 7000mhz?

why 44 ROPs? I would have thought 48 or maybe 40 but for some reason 44 seams odd to me.

How does this compare to a stock titan?
I don't own a Titan but from the article:
As for new benchmarks, this 3DMark score from a very reliable source shows that the card is indeed faster than the GeForce GTX 780 and a bit higher than the GeForce GTX Titan which scores around 9000 marks.

I believe the ROPs are fully decoupled from the memory controllers now. Looks like they are doing a 1CU:4ROPs ratio. 11 CUs with 256 SIMDs/ALUs per each gives us 2816 ALUs.

Looks like some people who pre-ordered the r9 290X are already getting theirs.

The new cooler certainly looks a lot better from that angle, which is fortunately the one I'll be viewing it from if I buy one. Interesting that the picture appears to be using an AMD CPU, while the 3DMARK submission is using an Intel one.

The computer in the picture wasn't the test rig; it is owned by someone who happened to receive their 290Xs early an AMD employee, apparently.

I think the card from that angle is pretty cool, too. Good idea for them to have those two red lines come across the top of the card and frame the Radeon logo. Nice to see Linus' comment about the red lines illuminating bearing truth as well.

Still disappointing that the rest of the line up is just rebranded 7xx0 series, but the 290X looks like a beast. Not too crazy about the 600 dollar price tag, but its much more palatable than 1000 for a Titan.

Apparently a lot of the NV fans thought it couldn't be done, a larger die, significant performance gains compared to 7970 Ghz, matching or beating Titan..

Not bad for a 28nm refresh. Now, if only AMD price it reasonable around $500 and then I would be truly impressed. $600 and its just "meh".

Color me impressed for the performance/mm2. Smaller and faster than Titan, I was skeptical they could pull it off.

It nags the Titan right now, and the "ridiculing" begins in December. That quote is going to stick with me forever.

If these are overclocking beasts I'll be tempted to get one. My 7970 is getting close to two years old . So far so good...

Power draw numbers would be the next thing I want to see. The performance is there, but at what wattage is the missing part of the equation. If it's down around 240w like that one leak suggested I can see this card getting pushed pretty hard.

Price is $729 at Newegg for the R9 290X + Battlefield 4 Premium Pre-Order.

Jeebus. That's pricey. Even without BF4 Premium, which is $50, that means the card is $679; hopefully, that price is only due to initial demand and will settle to something closer to $600 in the near future.

EDIT: Didn't notice that it was BF4 Premium.

When I check it still says "coming soon."

I hope it's not $729 for a preorder of a stock card with no reviews. I was thinking of placing an order, but not at that price.

$729 is more than what i thought it would cost
But as Nvidia they're not a charity institution and if it proves to be faster than both Nvidia cards i think that $300ish less than Titan is not "ridicule"
