Took long enough, but I guess the days of me keeping a FT image on the HD and having it mounted via Alcohol are over. Thanks Blizz.

That's one thing I like about Stardock. Gal Civ 2 has no copy protection. Unreal 2004's first patch got rid of a disc check. All companies should do that within a month or two. What's the point in having a disc check after there are cracks and pirated copies all over the internet. The only people a disc check inconveniences are the paying customers.

Woo about time, I can finally use the Test Map feature in the Map Editor instead of constantly refreshing the Custom Game page.

Do you need to apply a patch or anything? I don't have WC3 right now but I'm thinking of installing it again, no cd sounds really awesome.

Yeah, just install it, then log into B.net and it'll DL/install the latest patch. Personally, I lost my RoC CD, so I've just burned my WC3 install dir to a DVD and copied it to my HDD each time I need to "reinstall." Now this is great, I don't even need to copy my FT game image along with it. Oh yeah, don't have a FT CD anymore either. Living in an apartment with 4 people who played a lot encountered tons of CD swapping .. and losing. :(

Nice. Although a couple of years too late, but nice anyways.

I was pleasantly suprised.

Nice, now I can re-install roc/ft since I don't have an optical drive and resort to images.

I see it's just a patch (1.21b) I was confused because there is nothing about it on Blizzard's site and no standalone patch to download either.

This is awesome now TFT opens up instantaneously, it's pretty nice not having to mount images or shuffle around for CDs, I presume the Mac version also has this patch, right?

Yes, we all realize it's not hard to get a NO-CD cracker and a B.net loader. I've also used images and a virtual drive to load it without a CD for years. The point is now you don't have to do anything but start the game in a 100% legit fashion. But thanks for your weak attempt at what I can only imagine is some type of bragging?

I think every company should release official no-CD patches after the game is no longer "hot" (say 2 years after shipping).

Prey 1.4 removed the CD check and good on them I say.

About freaking time. I know they did this with Starcraft, but did they do it with Diablo as well?

Would be nice if it *worked*. Apparently because I installed mine to a non-standard directory (I don't just drop everything into program files) the patch cannot complete for me. Great.

I don't install to the standard dir either. I have all my games in C:\Games. In fact, since I just straight copy the directory without actually installing the game doesn't even make the installation registry entries properly so to use this patch I needed to add the InstallPath entry manually so that it would find the game.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Blizzard Entertainment\Warcraft III]
"InstallPath"="C:\\Games\\Warcraft III\\"

Is the key I had to add so the patch would install. Hope that helps you.

Blizzard tends to do this with their older games like star craft. It makes more sense for them to have more subscribers and worry less about hawking their software.

oh nice! this will make it super convenient for me cause i take my laptop with me all the time and its a pain carrying the discs around (no place to store them in my bag).

Did you try downloading the patch manually from Blizzard rather than the auto-update via ingame?

i think its about time they did this, it's not like anybody was using the CDs anymore, everyone (including me) was just using the image.
