WC sealing goop?

I removed the fittings from a couple of Black Ice radiators and found that they had been installed using some rubbery substance to prevent leaks. This was tough to clean out of the threads without getting tiny particles in the radiator.

I need a suggestion about what compound to use when installing my WC fittings.

Also, would it be a good idea to remove all factory/distributer-installed fittings to make sure they have a good seal?

Don't mess with teh factory fitings unless you find a leak. Its alwyas best to run the loop before you install it to make sure there are no leaks.

But regular Teflon tape is all you need around the threads of the fittings to prevent leaks.

most likely it was silicon RTV sealant.

You can try using a metal barb, like DD fatboys and see if that will seal, if not, your gonna have to use silicon sealant again.

Best places is hardware store, or a pet fish store.
