I changed my delta 60mm to a panaflow H1A 80mm because of the noise difference, and accidentally put the H1a on backwards

This thing is a pain to pull back out of the case (the screws are on the underside because of the way i put the grill on.) Is it a lot better to have it blowing down into the fins as opposed to sucking away?

bump.

It seems it might change it quite a bit. I am replacing all of my case fans (one in front, one in rear, as well as power supply) with 80mm L1A's hopefully that will make it even more silent.

The only heatsinks that seem to do ok with "sucking" are the Alphas and that is do to the shroud that causes the air to be drawn closer to the bottom of the sink. (Thats my guess, not fact). If your WBK doesn't have a shroud that limits where the air comes in then blowing is going to perform a whole lot better. You could probably simulate a shround to see for yourself, simply by electrical taping around the top of the heatsink and only leaving the bottom 1/2 inch open for air to be drawn. See if this changes your temp readings. If it does then you could make a quick and easy aluminum one to cover it, but if you are only trying to avoid removing your hsf then I would say do remove it and reverse your fan back the other way. Thats the way that heatsink was designed to work.

P.S. If you don't have a shim on your processor be very very careful if you try the tape not to jiggle your hsf and chip and edge.

I started "sucking" when I first got an FOP-38.. "Blowing" never seems to yield better temperatures, so.. I just keep all of my CPU fans "sucking".
