Just so you guys know, you arnt going to get those drives untill around ohhh maybe JANUARY 20th of 2003. Just thought I would update that for ya. Dell has about 70,000 Orders to fill ahead of you guys... :) Check your status page or call them up to confirm what I say.

That is correct. The drive that is back-ordered until after your next New Year's hangover is the 120 GB version, not the 100 GB drive as posted here.

Ordered one yesterday for $112. This is my estimated ship date from Dell.

I ordered the 80 GB yesterday to get the 40 GB Platters, rather than the 33 that are in the 100. Anyway, I had the 10/29 date as well, but mine has shipped, and is already half way here.

I called cust svc. about this, and they said it automatically adds time to the ship date because the ordering system "Assumes" that everything ordered is a PC, and the current PC turn around is listed as the ship date.

Might want to check your order status online, you might be pleasantly surprised.. :)

Yeap same here ordered one yesterday.

ESTIMATED SHIP DATE: on or before Oct 29, 2002

Got it for about 112 with 3 yr warranty. Also ordered the 18 gig Maxtor Atlas 10k III 68 pin version for 105$ which comes with a 5 yr warranty.

Gotta love the Dell % deals.

Next on my wish list...a Sony DRU 500A :)

DELL sucks. After the Radeon 8500, Logitech Z-560 and WD 120 SE fiascos, I'm surprised people still post "deals" involving DELL...

Just checked Dell for my 100gb and it says its delayed, but still says 10/29/2002.
With Dell you never know!! Could ship today or in 2 weeks.

"Currently one or more items are not available. Every effort is being made to complete your order.
Delayed 10/29/2002"

I disagree that the Dell deals suck.

I got a 120GB S.E. WD from them for $140 about 2 months ago, Z560's for $135 when they first came out, just bought a Planar 15" LCD w/speakers for $292, not to mention several others I'm forgetting. All these prices included shipping, and were still great deals at the time. Heck, I still think they're good prices.

Maybe you should just settle for the "good" deals that are $10-20 less for an item than it can be purchased elsewhere. Personally, I think those are great deals. If you don't agree, it's most likely an item you had not been planning to purchase anyway, so I can't see a good reason to complain. Some of the hot deals for really cheap items fall through, but it's usually due to it being an error and/or way too many people trying to get in on the deal. A small discount and free/cheap shipping should not be overlooked if it's something you can use.

I also disagree that the Dell deals suck.

Over the last couple of years I have purchased several items from Dell. I woulnd't say I got a killer deal on any of them, but got a good deal that I was quite happy with.

Just like the $112 100gb WD SE Drive. Good price, free shipping, and no waiting 3 months for a rebate I may never see!!!

I was in on the Z560 deal last year, but never really expected to see anything and was not too upset when it all got cancelled.

As long as Dell keeps having the deals they do I'll keep buying from them!

This is my first time quoting myself but...WEEEE... lol Anyways...Sorry you guys are right, I misread. I thought this was for 120gb. Its for the 100gb, that should be fine... I guess I should stop trying to read posts at 4:20 in the morning.

Has anyone received their drive yet? I just got an email pushing the date back to 11/7. I thought only the 120GB Special Edition WD drives were on back order. Anyone talked to the people at Dell? This sucks...I really want that drive.

A. That's the 120GB drive not the 100gb.
B. Dell doesn't have 70K orders they just said that to scare everyone off and cancel. I've heard numbers anywhere from 3K to 70K from different dell reps.
C. Your drive will ship WAAAY before january 20th. They also said that to scare everyone off.
D. It doesn't matter anyway because i already have my 120gb SE from dell in my computer. BAHAHA.

Hmmm...Well I guess I can just leave my order there and try to find a better deal until it ships...or if that never happens I guess I just wait until I get my drive. I just wish I had my drive now! My current drives ares too full. UT2K3 is HUGE!

Well, I checked the order of the drive today and it was "canceled"...I never even got an email telling me that they were cancelling the order. So I called them up and they said WD had stopped making the drive and thus they could not get it to me. The guy offered me a discount on the Dell Branded WD 120GB drive with 8MB cache...said they were in stock. However considering how many other people got screwed on this drive with that previous deal I am sorta thinking that this order will eventually get canceled too. I guess I am doomed to never get my new drive.
