I'm currently overclocking an Athlon classic, I'm at 800 from a 700 using a GFD. I wanted to know if you all could give me some ways to identify a successful overclock. Are fatal exceptions and IOS, Windows protection errors signs that the system is not stable and therefore -- not a successful overclock? Thanks!

CHiMPBizKiT,

You tell me, are fatal exceptions and IOS and Windows protection errors something normal? hehe Not at all... If you're getting these I'd say you have a real problem and would not overclock your processor until you eliminate your cooling issues. While these processors are cheap, no use throwing away money.

Also, just to let you know, the ways to test if your processor will remain stable, run SETI@home or RC5 or Quake 3 on a timedemo for extended periods of time. If you don't get any errors or it doesn't shut down, you should be good to go.

I have a Duron 600 overclocked to 935. I've tested it by running Prime95 and RC5 on it overnight and for the next day, and then when I got home from work, surfing the net and playing Quake3 with both programs still running. Q3 isn't as fast :), but it was still stable.

If you can do this, I'd say your system is stable.
