ways to relieve muscle soreness in 5 hours?

On Monday, I began practicing twice-a-day for soccer. Yesterday we had a morning practice, and a night game. Hence, I am sore. We have another practice tonight, a practice tomorrow morning at 8, and a game tomorrow night. Then, on Saturday, we have more games.

Any ideas to relieve muscle soreness so that I may play at my best these next few days?

Get a towel or two and douse them in very hot water and apply for a few minutes at a time or until the towel starts to get cold. Take some Motrin or Ibuprofen and eat some bananas and orange juice to get the proper potassium/sodium balance in your muscles to prevent cramping. Oh yeah, drink a lot of water.

I'll second the stretching (before and after) but I'd go with Advil or Aleve for the ibuprofen or naproxen sodium, respectively (anti-inflammatory)

Take a hot bath or jacuzzi to loosen the muscles and then stretch for 30 minutes

Take a few ibuprofen if you have a lot of pain.

Eat bananas

Stay extra-hydrated

Muscle soreness is best relieved by doing exactly what you did to make them sore, only with less intensity... then stretching.

NEVER stretch a cold muscle. If you want to do a pre-workout stretch do it after a 10 minute warm-up.

There is also some evidence that taking L-Glutamine helps with muscle recovery. They sell it in powder form. I mix 10 grams in with my protein shakes.

I second the Aleve suggestion. That stuff rocks. 😀
