Ways to montior/control network printers?

We are having too many issues with people printing out large amounts of paperwork when the stations are meant for printing around 5 pages at most for certain important documents. Since I am tired of having to tell people not to print so much I was wondering if there is a way to implement this from my machine to control those printers. I have tried a few of the shareware software, so far they have all been local install stuff.

That really doesn't bother me but if its goign to be local i would rather use something in windows to control it. Is there something in XP i can limit page amounts?

Otherwise if i have to install and mange it on 9 machines the license fees add up quick along with trying to convince mgmt to purchase it. I really mean that I think I am the only one there that understand the detriments of all the extra printing.

BTW this is on a Novell network, HP printers, and XP machines.

At my school (Augusta State University) we use a piece of software named "Pharos" which limits on how much a person can print out.

I dunno how it works or how to set it up but we use it ^_^

Sorry if this is not very helpfull...

setup actual print queues, and you can limit them in the directory services. Not sure if it has anything, but HP WebJetAdmin is web based software to admin all your HP printers.

Is it only limited to HPs?

Yes, HP Webjetadmin ONLY works for HP printers, because there are some specific API's between the server and printer, and plugins that are updated for the printers.

Check out PCounter

This is really designed for server installations where you want billable printing. There may be rules you can build and apply to suit your needs.

It is relatively inexpensive
