Ways to improve cell reception?

I just moved, and cell reception in my house is crap. AT&T gets no reception, tmobile gets no reception, and Cingular seems to get spotty reception, fair enough but it drops calls. Is there any way to stabilize the reception, or improve it?

Even though I have AT&T, Verizon has the best cell phone reception... Hands down. Verizon users will almost always have better reception than any other provider. Just try it out for 15 days... trust me, once you have them you'll never go back.

Why do you think they'd work any better?

Right now Verizon has the best network in the country.
From what I hear, ATT, Cingular, Tmobile, Sprint sucks in cali. Nextel and Verizon was best i think.

Check howardforums.com and check by the region. You can hear the good and the bad about reception etc..

What are you talking about? Do you have TDMA?? I have AT&T gsm and my area is way better than the old TDMA. At&t has been investing lots of money lately into their new technology and I get better reception than my coworkers, who are on the old tdma.

What kind of phone do you have? You can get replacement antennas that help with some phones.

EDIT: I had a external antenna for my Nokia 5125 and it worked wonders! I'd go from no signal to 3/4 bars with the antenna.

verizon has the best network currently because they are the ones with the money to build such a good network. You can tell that att and tmobile and even nextel are scrounging for cash to up their networks by 2 indicators.

1. their plans and phones don't cost as much as verizon's.
2. becoming a reseller for att and tmobile is ridiculously simple. It's literally as easy as buying 100 or so att/tmob phones and asking them for a resale license. They'll overnight that to you.

now (1) on it's own could be just regular competition, but when you consider they're letting pretty much anyone sell their phones and plans, you can see they're trying to blitz in the capital. If you look at lots of cell phone dealers, you'll find lots who sell att and tmob and probably nextel....but you'll notice no verizon a lot of the time. Because it's a much more complicated process to sell verizon phones.

yeah, i have att tdma and yes att is putting money into their gsm network but it still doesnt cover the same area tdma does....yet. with gsm you may get better reception in certain spots but tdma covers a lot more so a lot of spots with gsm you just have no service and tdma is still working.

yep, another vote for verizon. all my friends have come from various carriers: at&t, cingular, t-mobile. after i had them give verizon a shot, they never went back.

Verizon has been voted as the best network in the country in ALL markets by consumer reports -- by a WIDE margin. AT&T comes in second, then either T-Mobile or Sprint, depending.

To improve reception in certain areas, you can buy an external antenna. They cost about $25 at places like http://www.eforcity.com and from what I've read they work pretty well.

I have a cheap $50 Cell phone form AT&T and it works in places where my borthers $110 Cell doesnt. hehe, just dont break the Antenna. I just broke mine. Tip dont ride Carnaval rides with your cell in your pocket it can break the Antenna.

or something similar, depending on how much you are willing to spend 😛

and yea verizon is nice... although at&t will beat it in a few buildings on our campus... buildings that just happen to be the ones i spend the majority of my day in 🙁 i might have to get a at&t plan and forward my verizon number to it this coming quarter.

Hold the phone... are you talking about reception inside a house/apt ? I have Sprint and if I step outside my front door, 4 bars. As soon as I step inside... none or maybe one. I can talk in certain spots in the house better than others. I don't know why indoors can be so poor in some places while others buildings provide no interference at all (SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN)... but it may not be because of the service provider alone. I'm saying even if I switch to Verizon and their [undoubtedly] better signal strengths, I don't know if it will help in my house. I'll find out in late October though, as my fiance is switching to Verizon then regardless.
