Ways to combat spam

I get a crap load of spam. I am thinking of changing my main email address, but I am fearful because I have a lot of people who i know that email me at that address. Any suggestions? Is it easy to do, just send out a mass mail to people with new address?

Also, how do I prevent my new address from being spammed? I use yahoomail address for registering at boards, which I heard is a smart idea.

Any other suggestions?

What about creating a new email address and starting fresh?
Is there rules or hints on creating an email address that will get blocked from spam? (ie. putting an _ before the name, etc)?

i used spamnet for the 30 day free trial and it worked very well, it filtered my ~250 spams a day down to 2-4 per day

but it costs $3.99 a month, that is probably worth it, but i have been too lazy to sign up, so for now its back to manually deleting them

my boss tried Outlook 2003 and he told me the new spam handler in it worked very well also.

Never sign up for products/newsletters/jokeoftheday/etc. with your main addy. Get a secondary spam address, or use a forwarding service with auto-destructing temp addresses (spamgourmet) to prevent unwanted follow-up mail.

I may change my primary email address, and use my mail.com email addy for message board registration.

What can you tell me about this spamgourmet? What is it exactly and how do you use it?

i use spamex... 10 bucks a year and you get the satisfaction of knowing exactly where your email address was whored.

for me, i've found that people mostly got my address from domain registry, and minolta product registration
