Way to get vsync higher than 60Hz in games?

I bought a new monitor recently that has a 144Hz refresh rate. I assumed that vsync would go higher than 60 if the refresh rate and fps were high enough but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I've tried it in quite a few games, HL2 and Bioshock infinite are two where I was getting higher than 144fps but getting only 60fps when I turned on vsync in game. I tried disabling in game and forcing it through CCC but that didn't seem to work at all.

I seem to remember old 120Hz monitors I tried locking to 120Hz with vsync in games, but I can't really confirm that as I don't have those monitors anymore.

For reference my sig is a little outdated, I'm using a R290x right now with Win10 and the official AMD release drivers.

Well for anyone interested I installed my 780 gtx and it locks to 144 when I enable vsync, not sure why the AMD card does not do this but I may try a few things to see if I can get it working.

You could try the tool CRU
http://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-Custom-Resolution-Utility-CRU

It overrides the edid, so you can remove all low refresh rate 1920x1080 configs. Games will then use 144hz in fullscreen.

If you're playing with vsync anyway you could run games in full window. That'll use the res and refresh of the desktop.

Some games have a 60 fps limiter, often no way to fix those, as physics can be unstable at high rates.
