Hey guys! I recently formatted and installed XP over ME on a Sony PCG-R505TE laptop. Everything is working great but I was wondering if there is some kind of utility that would allow me to control the CPU cooling fan. It comes on and off every few seconds based on what is happening and it's kind of annoying. On a newer Sony that I own, they have some kind of utility to do it but Sony's site didn't reveal something similar for the R505TE. Any ideas? It could be 3rd party software.

Thanks,
Al

No it's not. The unit is about 5 years old since it originally came with Windows ME on it. It has a P3 750 in it.

Nope, I've got a sony PCG F480 which is about as old as yours although it has a 600MHZ processor and nope there is no way to control it. What are you doing that is CPU intensive that would peak and drop like that?

I'm doing everyday things like launching programs, surfing the net, etc. Nothing special. My newer Sony VGN-S260 does the same thing even with the power management program but it is not quite as loud. I guess that's the price you pay for a smaller form-factor laptop. Maybe I'll record the noise if I get a chance. I'm sure it's normal though.
