I'm looking to sell a Samsung ssd I have and hoping I can include in the info the warranty length.

But I'm not finding anywhere on their site's where I can check. The one spot that looked promising had two dozen models to choose from, but the one I have wasn't listed.

It's an 840 Pro. Is it just not possible to check warranty status? Thanks

They go by your receipt, and in fact, you need that receipt for any warranty service done to it.

I guess the answer to the next question - if I give my original receipt to someone else can they get warranty service done to it? Is probably answered when it is attempted. Most other companies tracked warranties by serial number. I'd like to know the answer before I sell it, but google searching is not being friendly to me today.

Thanks

I dealt with Samsung on a dlp tv repair several years ago, was a hassle as they sent the warranty work to a "local-ish" repair shop and the shop decided I lived to far away for them to even bother to contact. Once I got Samsung to send the job over to their own people in Chicago I finally got a new tv from them (early Samsung dlp's had a lot of problems with the power supply).

Couple months ago was a total p.i.t.a. finding warranty info on two 27" monitors a company I work for purchased, they had a defect in their whole product line, took a long time to get any info out of them.

I didn't have an easy road with Samsung when I RMA'ed my dead 840Pro last year, their website is a shambles and I could never get the RMA process started online... I had to call.

I don't recall having to prove I purchased the drive, I think they went by the serial number. It probably wouldn't hurt to call the SSD support people (it's an outside contractor) and just ask them how much warranty remains on your product, and if it's transferrable.

Theoretically, the 840Pro has a 5-year warranty... they haven't been out that long, ergo every 840Pro out there should still be covered under warranty.

On my 830 I had to RMA, they wanted me to attach the scanned invoice....
And yeah, their web site is terrible, ended up calling them, and that is when they told me to e-mail some RMA place they use, and those guys told me to e-mail them the scanned invoice.
They may have changed things.. dunno.
Perhaps OP should just say 'AS IS' ;)

Probably won't mention warranty at all then. When I see things listed as "AS IS", I assume the seller knows it is faulty and wants you to take the chance on buying the faulty item with no chance of return. Only thing wrong with this ssd is I purchased it intending to run XP off of it, quickly learned that you don't run XP on ssd's.

quickly learned that you don't run XP on ssd's.

I quickly learned even XP benefits from the speed of an SSD... I put my refurb 840Pro I got back in my daughter's old XP laptop... it gave it a considerable performance boost. What's nice about a Samsung SSD and XP is the Samsung toolbox is actually pretty useful... you can manually TRIM your SSD very easily.

What problems did you have with XP and an SSD?

When I first transferred the boot partition over to the ssd drive, it refused to even begin to boot up into Windows XP. Then I began searching google, and found two things relating to XP & ssd drives:

XP was not designed with ssd's in mind, the way it handles the file system, over time you lose the performance benefits that ssd gives you. And, the way XP handles the file system, the ssd will degrade at a faster rate than with Windows 7.

There appeared to be some software modifications that can be loaded into XP to correct some of these things and work better with ssd drives, but I felt it wasn't worth it for me, the absolute last thing I want is a problem with the drive on this system.

I eventually put the ssd in my laptop, but after loading the laptop on with a ton of development software, using 80gb out of the 128gb, decided to replace it with one of Seagate's hybrid drives.

I did a fresh XP install on my daughter's laptop, I haven't seen any problems at all. I do the maintenance on it, every few weeks or so I just TRIM it and life is good. I wouldn't give it a second thought...
