I'm not as green as this may seem, I have a folder full of get rich quick offers, but, I entered a competition with the Motley Fool (even have the competition entry page saved on disc, sad 🙁) on 22 January to win £2500 off my credit card balance.
Winner was supposed to hear by 31st Jan.

Received this tonight (6th Feb);

Hi Andy,

Not too long ago, you entered the Motley Fool's "Win £2,500 off your credit card balance" competition.

We have just drawn the winner's name, and it is my pleasurable duty to inform you that you are the lucky winner of £2,500.

We had over 100,000 entries in all, and yours was the lucky email pulled out of the Motley Fool hat.

In order to claim your cheque for £2,500, you first need to reply to this email to confirm you have received it. I will then reply to you, asking for your name and address. Once we've received that, a cheque in your name for £2,500 will be winging its way to you, courtesy of the Motley Fool.

Congratulations again,

Richard

The name (Richard Cartmell) is right and works as Marketing Manager for the Motley Fool, the web address is right, there's no mention of competitions or winners though.
Have I got lucky do you think or is some ar$ehole jerking my chain?

What's the worst thing that can happen? They can spam your Email (which they already have) and home address with ads? I say go for it.

FWIW, if you plug "Motley Fool 2500" in Google you'll get ton of responses about the contest.

I have personally sat in meetings with Motley Fool people. They are legit and they have money. Definitely go for it!!

Lucky bastard!

Email them back and wait for the cheque (or spam) to come through!

Thanks Garry 😀
I've replied but I suppose I'll have to wait until Monday before anyone answers.
I don't think it's spam, I've seen any amount of that sh!t. It's a competition I entered, and I remember doing it (must have been sober at the time, very rare 😀)
It just strikes me as being legit and I'm not usually lucky enough to win 2.5 grand 😀
Oh well, if it falls through I'll let you know <sigh>

It is TAandy we're talking about here 😀

Good luck Andy 🙂

Congrats.😀

This is how it worked a few years ago when I won a trip to San Francisco from a now-defunct dotcom.

Expect to get a packet with tax documents to sign and return before you receive money. (Assuming the UK wants its pound of flesh from prize winnings like the US does.)

It is very possible you were the backup winner and the first pick never replied to the e-mail -- getting this one week after January 31.

Once you get the money, its time to build a new cruncher.

WooHoo!!!!!! 😀 😀 😀
It was genuine  :wine:
Just timed nicely to pull me out of a hole too!
